Grace Church Naples does not offer Divorce Support Care Groups. We believe Scripture is clear: God designed marriage as a sacred, lifelong covenant between one man and one woman (Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:6, Malachi 2:16). “What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” Supporting the dissolution of marriage would contradict the very Word we are called to uphold. We stand with the Bible — one marriage, for life.

The Crisis of Fatherlessness: A Call to Action for Men of Faith

By Pastor David Kheeler

As a father of four and a grandfather to 14 wonderful grandchildren, I understand the immeasurable role that a father plays in a child’s life. It is with a heavy heart that I reflect upon the growing crisis of fatherlessness in America—a reality that affects millions and reverberates through generations.

Did you know that according to the U.S. Census Bureau, approximately 1 in 4 children in America live without a father in the home? That translates to over 18 million children. This staggering statistic is not just a number; it represents children who are missing a vital figure in their lives—someone to guide, protect, and nurture them. In my own experience, I have seen how a father’s presence can shape a child’s identity and future.

God’s design for fathers is beautifully articulated in His Word. Ephesians 6:4 instructs us: “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” This scripture underscores the importance of active, loving involvement in a child’s life. A father’s role is not to be merely a provider but a spiritual leader, a teacher, and a source of comfort. The absence of this role can create a void that leaves children feeling lost and unanchored.

The statistics on fatherlessness are alarming. Children from fatherless homes are nearly four times more likely to live in poverty, and they are more likely to engage in criminal behavior. These children often struggle with emotional and psychological issues, and they face challenges in their educational pursuits. This cycle of despair can seem overwhelming, and it begs the question: what can we do?

As men of faith, we are called to step up. Psalm 127:3 reminds us, “Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.” We must embrace this truth and recognize the sacred responsibility we have towards the next generation. Every child deserves a father who is present, loving, and invested in their well-being.

If you are a father, I urge you to take your role seriously. Spend time with your children, listen to their fears, and teach them the ways of the Lord. If you are a man without children of your own, consider mentoring a young boy or girl who lacks a father figure. Together, we can build a community rooted in love and truth, demonstrating what it means to be a godly man.

The crisis of fatherlessness is not just a societal issue; it’s a spiritual one. As we face the modern challenges of this world, let us remember that God is our refuge and strength. With faith in action, we can be the fathers He designed us to be.

In closing, let us gather together in prayer for those children who are growing up without the guidance of a father. May we also pray for the men in our lives, that they may rise to the occasion and fulfill their divine calling. Together, we can break the cycle of fatherlessness and build a legacy of faith, love, and strength for generations to come.

Blessings to you all,
